It’s that time of year when we need to start feeding the polytunnel sheep to help them keep their weight on, hay just isn’t enough for some of them.
The boys seem to be especially affected this time of year and are starting to lose condition and so we need to implement our feeding regime now.
Hard feed, as it’s known, is specifically tailored to the Sheep Ahoy gang without the ingredients in commercial feed that can cause problems for the boys. We feed a mix of soaked sugar beet, grass nuts, linseed and chaff (chopped hay/grass).
This feed will cost the rescue around £200 a week which is in addition to the weekly cost of hay for this group of sheep … hay being eaten at a rate of £150 a week.
Checking back a couple of years and we were paying around £100 a week for feed but we have more sheep to care for now plus feed costs have escalated hugely over the past year alone.
Basically, the winter feed costs for hay and feed are £1400 a month just for the polytunnel sheep.
We have done a lot of fundraising with auctions plus received other donations from yourselves but these have gone to keep on top of our vet bill …. Thank you for your support with this!
However, we now need to focus on the winter months and the additional costs that it brings and so we are asking for your help once again.
